"Cajun" Jake

Well it has been over a month since we brought Cajun "Jake" home and it feels like we have had him forever. Our dog of 13 years passed away from cancer and after several months our home was just not the same and we missed having our canine family member. My husband thought about a rescue as his friend had resuced a boxer and had great success and we had just returned from a family vacation where my sister-in-law had just purchased a boxer and the dog had such great personality. We went online and looked up the boxer rescue and checked out the amazing array of boxers that needed a home and when we were asked to look at Jake and when we heard his story we were ready to meet him. Well it was love at first sight!! What a perfect temperment Jake has and he has been great with our kids and has adjusted perfectly to his new home. Mind you he has gotten into our garbage can inside the house but that is about as crazy as Jake gets. We have enjoyed his walks, his incessient body tail wagging when we come into the house and his love for all of our family as he has truly become one of us. We look forward to bringing him home to New Orleans to meet my family for Thanksgiving, truly a funny thing as I am from Louisiana and so is Jake, a match made in heaven. SKYE

It will be a year in two weeks that we adopted Skye from LSBR. She is such a big part of our family now and is absolutely the sweetest dog ever. We have a Great Dane that we adopted from another rescue group one month before Skye was adopted and they immediately became the best of friends. Our kids (6yrs and 9yrs) love those dogs and they return the love back to them in so many ways. Thank you LSBR! Jennifer Elwood

SYDNEY

I wanted to give you the update on Syd, and let you know how she is interfacing with the Rock-Dog. (Why Rock-Dog? This dog ROCKS!) Sydney is doing great. She is having a blast destroying my backyard, tearing through the trash, and stealing my ball caps and putting them in the pool! Whoever said this pup was 2, as indicated in her medical records, needs to go back to school! My vet (and I agree) that she is about 11 months old! Of course, with all her faults, she is completely delightful! She has such a personality that makes her hard to resist. When she gets sleepy, her muzzle turns pink. When I talk to her sweetly, she blushes! He muzzle turns pink! She sleeps in her "box", and goes into it freely, even when not told to. Rocky, on the other hand, has changed fundamentally. He was quite the "free-spirit" before Sydney arrived. What a surprise! Rocky has morphed into the "Alpha Dog" and is so completely calm and protective of everything. He looks after the kids, and is very conscious of Syd. I cannot believe how attached they are! It is almost like they are soul mates, as there is never one without the other. They are a great pair! Rocky is the "Master of All He Surveys" and Sydney is the one who is always in trouble! She knows when we get on to her, and then she goes to her bed in the bedroom. Rocky knows when she is in trouble and doesn't follow her. He acts like he punishes her, too! After a while, she comes out of the bedroom and asks for forgiveness, and of course, all is well. Rocky has grown to almost 85 pounds of muscle, and even Syd has put on a pound or two. We walk (I am dragged). Not nearly as much as I want to, but we have big yard. She is almost housebroken now, and I have Rocky to thank for that. He lets her know when it is time to go "Outside". We have had only a few accidents in the house, and not on the rugs, thankfully. (Hardwood floors with a LOT of lacquer!) All in all, we are very satisfied with both of them. Their dispositions are completely amiable. They are true Boxers. Both of them are eager to please, easily shamed, and delightfully included within our family. Syd has a few things to master to be the perfect daughter, but for now, her massive tongue and playful disposition make up for any of her mischievous acts! She makes it extremely hard for me to take her too seriously! You guys have done an exceptional job with these incredible dogs. We are so impressed with your organization. Again, thank you for your dedication and due diligence. It is much appreciated. Rocky had been such a relief for us since Tex passed away. If any animal could replace Tex, Rocky has done an excellent job of filling Tex's size 20 shoes--I didn't think that would be possible. While Rocky is not Tex, he sure has done a great job of easing the pain. We still miss Tex terribly. Yes, we have discussed it privately, Rocky AND Syd, as a couple, are not only entertaining, they are a completion of our family. We couldn't picture our home without them. Rocky has matured incredibly, and Syd has tried desperately to fit into his mold. All in all, they are a great couple and we are happy to have them. Derek

Hello everyone at LSBR. I wanted to give yall an update on my great new home down in Alvin. I am growing up pretty fast and learning lots of new things with my family, the Overbys. I am doing great on my house training, although I have small accidents on occasion. I am getting used to my crate too, but I let everyone know that I would rather be outside. I have a hugh back yard that I can run around and play in. I have lots of toys to chew on, but a couple of times I mistaked my mommy's dress shoes for my toys, but I was told that she needed some new black shoes anyway so that was okay. My parents have a 3 year old daughter named Ellison who has just about as much energy as I do, so that is great for me. She likes to play outside with me alot and throw my ball for me. She is just about my size too. I have learned how to sit (for a treat of course), and am reluctantly learning how to be on a leash. I like to go for rides in the truck with my dad, except the time he took me to meet my new vet, Dr. Crumm. That guy gave me 3 shots and they hurt, but I guess I'm up to date on all of that for now. He told me that I had tapeworms, but gave me some medicine to clear that right up, so I'm doing fine. I like to take long naps in my daddy's recliner and annoy their other dog; He's a 14 year old Minature Dachshaund, and he's grumpy most of the time, but he tolerates me licking him in the face and barking at him. He just likes to sleep most of the day. Oh and any of you at LSBR need someone to trim or prune any of your plants on the back porch, then I'm your pooch. I have helped my mom and dad take care of that here already. Anyway, I just wanted to give yall an update on how great it is here and wish luck to all of my friends still at LSBR. MAYA

Just wanted to let you know that we have had a WONDERFUL week with Mya! She has been a perfect lady her first week here! We couldn't be more pleased! :) I think we are going to be calling her Missy. My husband Marshall just likes that name for her, and she seems to understand that we are talking to her when we use it. Sometimes I slip and call her Mya, and she knows that name, too! :) She's very smart! :) Missy and Rudyard are inseparable. They play and play and play until I MAKE them come inside and rest! :) At mealtimes Rudyard INSISTS on eating right next to Missy. I was trying to feed them in separate places, but he refuses to eat unless he is right beside her. So I just stand there while they eat to be sure each one gets his/her own serving. (Missy has been known to try to help herself to Rudyard's food, too.) :) Missy is indeed a very loving, huggable, snugglable little person. I adore her sweet side as much as her playful side. And she LOVES Marshall. When I come home from work, she is obviously happy to see me. But when MARSHALL comes home a little later, her tail wags sooooo hard that her ENTIRE rear end is wagging. She is wagging so hard that she can hardly scamper over to him. Her front feet want to go forward, but her hind feet are going side to side. It is precious to watch! :) Again, THANK YOU for blessing our home with Missy/Mya! :) Each time I rub and pet her, I think of how sick she was when you took her in. THANK YOU for saving her life and for restoring her body and her spirit!! She is a BLESSING to our home, and I will ALWAYS be grateful to you!!! Not only did you invest great time, care, and love into her liife, but you also demonstrated tremendous UNSELFISHNESS when you allowed her to come live with us!!! I KNOW it was hard to give her up!!!
