Serena

Dear Ann - I just wanted you to know that I love my new home here in Clear Lake and to thank you for taking such good care of me when I was rescued. I miss you all – and I miss Noah but Mommy is taking good care of me. On Friday, I had my check up with the doctor and he said I had gained 6 pounds since January and I looked really nice and lean. He updated my vaccinations and they did stick something up my butt (I didn’t like that very much) but at least I don’t have any worms. I get to sleep in a big bed at night – mommy says I have to learn to sleep North and south on the bed – not east and west but I am there all night long next to Mommy. Sometimes Mommy goes to the office – maybe for a few hours during the day and I am in my crate at that time with my toys. I have two boxes worth of toys that I dig into every day. I have been helping mommy garden in the yard – I pull the flowers up for her and give them to her and I dig new holes so she can plant new ones. I noticed though that she is not always smiling when I do that. I have been showing mommy all sorts of things that I can do – I can hop up on the counter in the breakfast area (the desk counter) – she explained to me very quickly that I’m not allowed to do that and I can open the door to her closet when she isn’t looking - then she mumbled something about $100 SAS sandals. This weekend mommy was yelling lot – I thought at me but then I realized she was yelling at the TV with some guys running up and down trying to put the ball in the basket. She was not happy when we went to bed – she was mumbling a lot about her bracket all screwed up. I told her we probably should have gone for a walk instead of watching a ball not going in a basket. Saturday morning, mommy took me to “The Pawsh Dog House” and left me there to get beautified. I got a big bath (with my special shampoo the doctor gave me), I got my teeth cleaned, my nails trimmed and filed, and I got a new scarf to wear for when I go walking with mommy which is one of my favorite things to do. And then mommy bought me 2 new toys and she has another Elk Antler on order for me. We do go for long walks – there is a park here with lots of kids and I get to watch them and I love to down the greenbelt trails – I meet lots of dogs that way. Mommy says I do very well on the leash. Mommy went away for 3 days and left me with the sitter. She has a really really really big back yard and I got to run a lot and she took me for walks 3 times a day. I loved that. They took good care of me and mommy came home and picked me up. She tells me that I will get to do that every once in a while which is fine with me because I know mommy will come back. My big brother Brian came home one weekend and he played with me all day – and then that night I got to sleep with him as a special treat. Last week he adopted a rescue up in Austin – he was going to get a boxer rescue but he heard about a shepherd mix that was going to be put down so he went and picked him up – so he will be coming home in a month or so and will stay here a couple of days and I can play with him. Plus one of mommy’s friends adopted a dog recently and we have a play date arranged for us to play. She is about my age. I hope you all are doing well. Mommy said you were going to visit sometime and I would love to see you. Love, Serena

Joe

Joe (now Zeus), I have found my forever home! I feel like I have been with my new mommy for years, when it's really only been a month! It was very interesting the first couple of days when I was trying to be very nosey and meet Tiger the cat that lives upstairs in our house. I'm still waiting for her to come down and meet me so we can play together, but I know it will take time. In the mean time I have found a new love (cough addiction cough cough) to chasing laser pointers around my house. Its amazing how that little bugger will be there one second and then the next on the ceiling! But that's OK, I'll get it one day! And don't even get me started on all the car rides! My mom now has a permanent stream of pupcus down the side of her car from me hanging my head out the window! The only down side for my new mommy is that she didn't know how gassy I can be... She calls me her little howitzer, what ever that is, because every time she turns around, I go off. I cant help it! I have a very bubbly personality!

Dolly (now Dez)

In November of 2010 we decided that we were going to get another dog for our boxer Zee. He needed a friend badly! We looked online and found one that we wanted but that didnt work out. The lady had brought over a dog that she felt we would love. The second we opened the door we knew that this was the one! She looked just like our dog but the patch was on the other eye. She was so friendly, and just wanted to be loved on and that was perfect because we have a lot of love to give. She came to us with the name of Dolly but we changed it to Dez.

At first, she wasn't too keen on Zee. She only wanted to be around him when she wanted to be around him which was not very often. But with a little time, training, and patience she grew very attached to him. (she's the one on top in the picture) My husband works out of town a lot and she is very protective of the home which makes me feel a lot better. She is WONDERFUL with our daughter who is 14 months. My daughter can poke and prod her and pull her ears and Dez loves it! She cuddles with her, plays with her, and protects her. When we first got Dez she only weighed about 48 pounds. She was a stray and you can tell she definetly was that! But now she weighs a whopping 67 pounds! We just wanted to say Thank you LSBR for bringing her to our home. She has been an great addition and we cant imagine our lives without her!!!

Thank you, The Bloom Family

Bella Mia

Dear LSBR Folks,

Just wanted to tell you how well Bella Mia is doing here in Coldspring. My wife and I adopted her on October 22, 2011 at the Fall Festival. Although rescue dogs come with some quirks, she is adapting very well and now thinks of this as her home. She is loving, sometimes thinking she is a lap dog, and loves to play fetch. Because we live in the country, she does get to run off the leash on occasion and has a wonderful time exploring her boundaries. She has learned to come to my whistle (though sometime she acts as if she does not hear it). When I say "home Bella", she hightails it to the front door of our house and waits for me to come let her in.

She has become a very real part of the family and our grandchildren love to play with her when they are here. In the attached picture, she made sure she was included and posed nicely. Pictured are Glenda and two of our four grandchildren. We have taken her on two motor home trips and, although timid, she is adjusting to a rolling home on wheels.

Bella is our second boxer and we love the breed. We live on Lake Livingston and when we brought her home the lake was down. We let her run on the beach and she loves the water. Splashing, chasing the birds, running into the water was all part of her daily exercise program. Now that the lake is full, she does not have the opportunity to get into the water but she does love to run along the bulkhead and chase the herons, gulls and ducks. Her first encounter with deer was fun to experience and when she found an armadillo, she was bewildered and fun to watch.

Genda and I just wanted you to know Bella has found a good home with owners that love her. In return, she give us a lot of pleasure and love.

Prince

Just wanted to let you know how great Prince is doing. He has been with us for a little less than a month now but it seems like he has been with us forever! He is so sweet, so loving and an absolute joy to have. He is one more reason we look forward to coming home after a long day. Ruby his sister, get along fabulously and are the best of friends! We watch them play and “box” around together for hours its amazing the bond those two have. Prince has completely captured our hearts. I often watch him sleep and wonder if he knows that all the hugs and kisses and attention he gets daily is forever and we hope it will make up for the years he was treated so badly. We love him so very much! We can’t express our gratitude to ALL of the Lone Star Boxer Rescue staff for your love of saving animals. YOU ARE ALL ANGELS!!! If it wasn't for you and your staff we would not have Prince. We were treated with kindness, compassion, and professionalism. We are so impressed with your organization that we will certainly recommend LSBR highly to others. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Please know that Prince is in a loving forever home and we are so grateful to have him. I wish you and LSBR tons of success in the future. Prince would like to add his own words...... I am so happy here. I don't always listen and sometimes I can get into things I am not pose to like my moms plants. I can also reach things that are left on the the cownter top like my parents dinnner or the valentines day present my dad got for my mom. but in my defence the stuffed dog he got for her had a bone in its mouth and I just didnt think it was fair that he had one and I didnt!! When we go for rides in the car I like to put my head out the sunruf and take in all the good smells of my happiness. My new sister is a trip!!! I know brothers are pose to think that sisters are uncool but mine is the best! She shares her bed with me, she plays with me and she taught me to use the pet door. Sometymes she tells mom if I am into somethyng I am not pose to be in but she only does it cuz she loves me. I will never forget my foster home or all the love you gave me whyle I waited for my new home. I really hope my kennel mates and the friends I made at LSBR find homes as good as mine. Thank you for letting me be adopted by The Morgans.
