Lone Star Boxer Rescue is the Houston Chapter of Austin Boxer Rescue, a nonprofit 501(C)(3) organization dedicated to the health and well-being of the boxer breed. LSBR/ABR is run and managed 100% by volunteers since 1999. Our main objective is to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home boxers that come to us from many sources including local animal shelters, owner surrenders, and strays. Please consider making a tax deductible donation to allow us to save more dogs in need throughout the state of Texas.

CLETO
CLETO

I wanted to send you and Lone Star an update on Cleto, who we renamed Gringo (cuz he’s a white boy). We came to the Fritz in search of a dog that needed us. We didn’t have any particular color, or size in mind, but I knew that I was partial to the white ones. I knew that most people preferred the “boxer look” and it eludes the white ones most of the time. We first saw a male that was very rambunctious and jumpy. He was too high energy for me and my 14 year old daughter. I then asked the volunteer if there were any that had been there a long time and she brought out Cleto. He was docile and didn’t seem to care one way or another whether we were there to see him. He was perfect. He is the exact same dog today almost 3 years later. Oh he gets excited to see us when we get home, but really he is just a 70 pound lap dog couch potato. He loves to run FAST and FAR! And loves to take walks. He isn’t that into toys, I think they get in the way of his chilling out time. His eyes are so expressive that I swear I can tell what he is thinking half the time. He sleeps on our bed cuddled up right next to me. He LOVES to be covered up, with blankets, pillows, anything you want to put on top of him, he gets cold easily. Well, just wanted to give you a little glimpse into how spoiled this little one has become. We look forward to many many more years with Gringo in our family! Leanne Jones

Elvis (now Walker Texas Ranger)

Nobody Is Perfect

When our oldest dog passed away we knew we needed a new “friend” for our boxer mix, Dallas. She is so smart, we knew it had to the boxer in her! So after considering buying one or adopting from a shelter, we knew the best thing would be to help a dog in need. We found the LSBR online and I started “picking out” the perfect female boxer for our house. We started the application process and found out that we couldn’t have a same sex boxer, which upset me but now that Dallas is older we know why. She is very Alpha in our house and does not do as well with other females as she does males.

So with help from LSBR they picked some dogs for us to meet at the shelter. I feel in love with a handsome white boxer, VERY well trained, sweet and quiet. The perfect dog for us!! Then came Elvis, and our lives changed forever. He was bouncy, and licking everything in sight, and didn’t seem too smart. But he knew that convincing the “dad” was how to get a new home. He went straight to my husband and sat beside him licking the air and pushing to be petted. My husband was sold. Then he turned his charms on my son, after soaking his face with kisses I knew I was outnumbered and gave in. Elvis was not house trained or crate trained and heartworm positive as well, so I left thinking what happened to my perfect boxer scenario.

Well he has been one of the best things to happen to us! We changed his name to Walker Texas Ranger (from Talladega Nights - because he is always “hopped up on Mountain Dew“). His personality lights up our house. He is always happy and friendly to everyone & everything, people, dogs, cats…he doesn’t even chase the squirrels. Our vet said that by next year he should be heartworm free!! And he really is smart, he has learned so much in just over a year. I am SO THANKFUL that LSBR saved him from euthanasia - our lives would have been missing so much! Who said everything has to be perfect!

Promise (now Precious)

Just wanted to give you and all the awesome folks at Lone Star an update. We can't believe it's been 5 MONTHS!!! Precious (Promise) is doing well in her new home. She really has settled in to the family here. There is lots of love in this family. I think she found a "Forever Home." Right now, her favorite hobbies are sharing the furniture with Daddy and her new big brother (Cooper), going for rides in the car, and hanging out with Daddy's friends. (See the Pics Below) Meeting new people that tell her how cute she is doesn't hurt either. Even the Vet loves our new babygirl. We just wanted to tell all of the people at LSBR THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for helping us add even more boxer love to our family.

You all ROCK!!!
Zach, Cooper and Precious

Harris

We adopted HARRIS in the Fall of 2008. We didn't change his name because it worked well with the "handsome" moniker. He adjusted to his new surroundings so quickly that it was obvious he belonged with our family. Though he has a few allergies, chewed plenty of shoes, and is obsessed with the kitchen, he has been absolutely wonderful!

He loves going for rides, rough play, stuffed animals, food, and giving kisses....... thankfully he gets plenty of it all.

Thank you LSBR for finding Harris, we couldn't imagine our life without him. We may be visiting you soon to add to our pack.

JILL

I wanted to give you an update on Jill or as momma (me) calls her "My Jilly-Bean". I have always loved dogs and always had two so they could be playmates. When I moved here from Germany (military), my 14 1/2 year old pit-bull died. I was so heartbroken, but still had my adopted boxer Gracie (princess Grace). I decided to get her a new playmate so she would not be heartbroken so much about Spankie. I saw Jilly on your website and just fell in love with her. Talk about personality, she was full of it. Anyway, to make a long story short, Gracie and I made the trip out there to see if we would all get along and could adopt the Jilly-Bean. First of all, I just want to thank everyone at LSBR, you did such a great job and really showed that you cared about the dogs. I got to the car and on the way home, had already fallen in love with Jilly. My baby is such a good natured dog that has a goal in life to be loved and love back. She is the sweetest thing and can not give or get enough love. She is such a crazy love-muffin, you can help but love her quaky ways. She had an instant bond with both myself and my other baby Gracie. Jill has brought us so much happiness and love that Gracie and I could not imagine life without her. I just wanted to express my gratitude for all that you do for these animals. I am so happy to give both of my girls a great home and lots of love, which they return doubled to me.

My brother had to move from Italy (he is also military) and had a rottie (Fortuna, or my Toonzie-bear). I took her until he got settled into his new home in California. I knew Gracie would be a great friend to her, but Jilly was just as welcoming to her. What a pleasure these girls have been. I just wanted to let you know that Jill has a heart of gold and will always be half of my heart. Again, cant thank you enough for allowing her to be my baby. I have included some photos for you to see my lovely babies. The two boxers are Jilly and her sister Gracie. I also included one the three girls so you can see how great they got along and how spoiled they are.

One final photo of my two girls and my parents boxer (who adopted after they fell in love wtih the Jilly-bean). Again, I am sorry it took so long for me to write this, but even though its late, you have my complete gratitude and respect for bringing another life of happiness to our home!!!

Respectfully, Gina Faulds (Gracie and Jill-beans momma).
